Birthday Wishes:

A 114 Year Celebration

  Alexander Stewart, ca 1935.
Alexander Stewart, ca 1935

Alexander Stewart was born in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1903. He was the third of five children, and the oldest male child in the family. His proud parents, James Turnbull Stewart and Grace McNiel Stewart had a confectionary shop to raise their sweet children in! He grew up being a conscientious, sports-minded lad, who was a par golfer and a professional soccer player on the Glasgow Rangers squad in the early 1920's. He came to the United States in 1923 because “the streets were paved in gold!”

In 1934, at a church social in Wyandotte, Michigan, USA, he was overwhelmed by a beautiful, intelligent, and creative young German girl named Beatrice May Miller ... he couldn't resist! They were a couple, and in 1937 they married in the house where she was born! This union of Scottish-German parents produced one child, James Dennis, the e.Librarian at The e.Lib, and the Rudolf Steiner Archive.

My loving Father died in 1982. Today, I celebrate what would have been his 114th birthday. Dad's greatest gift to me was the firm understanding of what Love really is: the gift of Freedom. He loved me so much, I was free to be what I wanted to be. What a gift! What a Dad!
